IndiGo, India’s preferred airline, operated its inaugural non-stop flight between Mumbai and London (Heathrow), taking a significant stride towards its goal of building a robust global network. The daily service, operated on IndiGo’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, features a dual-class configuration — combining standard Economy with IndiGoStretch, the airline’s tailor-made business product.

Heathrow, one of the world’s largest and busiest airports, is strategically important to global airlines. Operating to and from Heathrow marks a big step forward in IndiGo’s internationalisation journey as it connects two major financial capitals – Mumbai and London. The long history and strong ties between the UK and India attract a high volume of travel between the two countries for education, tourism, and to visit family and friends. With the launch of this new route, customers from India will have the option to travel with India’s preferred airline to London and beyond via the airline’s codeshare network. At the same time, travellers from London will get directly connected to IndiGo’s vast network of 90+ destinations within India.

Mr Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer at IndiGo, said, “We are delighted to announce the launch of direct connectivity between Mumbai and London – two vibrant, global financial hubs with deep cultural and economic ties. This route is not just a new destination for us, it’s a bridge between cultures, businesses, and families. This development marks a pivotal moment in IndiGo’s journey to become a truly global airline, reaffirming our commitment to connecting India to the world through efficient, consistent, and reliable service. With this launch, we aim to make travel between India and the UK more seamless, accessible and affordable for our customers.”

IndiGo has been on its internationalisation journey, driven by the strategy – towards new heights and across new frontiers – and has been rapidly building its long-haul network with the recent launch of services to Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Manchester. On these routes, IndiGo offers an elevated long-haul experience with complimentary hot meals and beverages, alcoholic drinks (available for purchase in Economy and served complimentary to IndiGoStretch passengers), seatback screens featuring curated content, and several other amenities that ensure comfort throughout the journey.
