India and the US are going to seal a business deal during President Donald Trump’s scheduled visit to India in the last week of this month, many sources said on Tuesday.

According to the sources, trade officials of India and the US are giving final touches to the planned deal which is supposed to cover certain sectors.

Donald Trump is coming to India on a two-day trip between February 23 and 26. Both the sides are ready to sign a trade agreement which is going to happen in New Delhi and Trumph will visit another city which may be Agra and Ahmedabad.

Sources said, “The trade deal and a pact on further enhancing defence cooperation are likely to be sealed during the visit by the US president.”  The two countries are waiting to settle a number of mega defence deals involving purchasing of a batch of military helicopters by Indian Navy from American defence major Lockheed Martin at a cost of USD 2.6 billion.

India is looking for exemption from high duties enforced by the US on certain steel and aluminium products and continuation of benefits on tariff on certain products under their Generalised System of Preferences (GSP). The US is prepared to supply oil and gas to energy-craving India as per its necessity as there is a huge probability for cooperation in the key sector, a top White House official said prior to President Donald Trump’s maiden visit to the India.

The US is set up to supply oil and gas to vitality hungry India as much as it needs as there is an enormous potential for two-sided participation in the key division, a top White House official has said in front of President Donald Trump’s lady visit to the nation.

India is also urging the US to accelerate greater market access for its products in the US in sectors like agriculture, automobile, auto components and engineering.

Alternatively, the US intends greater market access for its farm and manufacturing products, dairy items and medical devices in India.

In 2018-19, the exports India to the US were at $52.4 billion, while imports stood at $35.5 billion. Trade scarcity reduced from $ 21.3 billion in 2017-18 to $16.9 billion in 2018-19.

India obtained FDI worth $3.13 billion from the US in 2018-19, higher than $2 billion in 2017-18.

Though, India had invited Donald Trump to grace the Republic Day parade as the chief guest last year, the US President could not come because of scheduling problems.
