In celebration of World Environment Day, IHCL—the Indian Hotels Company Limited—has shown a number of sustainability projects throughout its Delhi-NCR portfolio, furthering the company’s environmental objectives under Paathya, its ESG+ framework.

The properties included in the efforts include the Taj Mahal, Taj Palace, Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa, Taj City Centre Gurugram, Vivanta New Delhi, Dwarka, Ambassador, New Delhi – IHCL SeleQtions, and Taj Damdama Lake Resort & Spa in Gurugram and Delhi NCR.

This hotel, the Taj Mahal in New Delhi, has been certified by Green Business Certification Inc. as LEED Zero Water. Laundry, flushing, cooling towers, and landscaping are just a few of the processes that return treated water to the site, which contributes to its water recycling efficiency of 97%.

Dr. Anmol Ahluwalia, General Manager and Area Director of Operations at the Taj Mahal in New Delhi, explained that the company’s goal under Paathya is to create systems that have an effect on the environment that extends beyond efficiency in daily operations. The journey’s focus on building circular ecosystems that optimise resources at every stage includes energy and water stewardship as important components. In developing a model of hospitality fit for the future, this strategy echoes IHCL’s dedication to sustainable development.

Enhanced water conservation measures have been implemented at the Taj Palace in New Delhi through state-of-the-art treatment and recycling systems. In the same vein, the enlarged solar power project at the Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa in Delhi NCR has enhanced renewable energy generation.

The establishment of an in-house water bottling machine at Taj Damdama Lake Resort & Spa, Gurugram, has contributed to a decrease in the consumption of single-use plastic bottles and the generation of plastic trash.

“At IHCL, sustainability is approached as a collective and continuous journey rather than a set of standalone initiatives,” stated Vinod Pandey, Area Director – Operations and General Manager of Taj Damdama Lake Resort & Spa in Gurugram. Our goal at Paathya is to create systems that incorporate environmental responsibility into day-to-day operations in order to generate long-term benefit. An approach that prioritises water conservation and waste reduction can help build a more sustainable and accountable hospitality ecosystem.

Additional initiatives across the board include energy-efficient technology, electric vehicle charging stations, water recycling, programs to reduce waste, and the adoption of renewable energy sources. Environmental stewardship and resource efficiency are ongoing themes in IHCL’s Paathya initiatives.
