Minister of Tourism and Culture of Uttar Pradesh, Jaiveer Singh, extended a warm welcome to the Japanese delegation led by the Vice Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, Mr. Osada. During the reception, he emphasized that Uttar Pradesh has been the land of Lord Buddha’s teachings, with most of the significant Buddhist sites in the state. These sites attract millions of Buddhist pilgrims every year, and recognizing their significance, the state government is implementing rapid tourism development initiatives.
Jaiveer Singh welcomed the delegation at a local hotel in Gomti Nagar and engaged in extensive discussions on developing Buddhist tourism sites, investment opportunities, and other key aspects. He highlighted that Buddhism originated in the sacred land of Uttar Pradesh, making it a prime destination for Buddhist pilgrims and a significant avenue for tourism growth. The steady influx of Buddhist tourists throughout the year contributes to local employment and benefits the community.
The Minister elaborated on various tourism development plans focusing on sacred Buddhist sites. Among the 12 identified tourism sectors, the Buddhist Circuit holds special importance, with both the central and state governments prioritizing its development. Authorities are actively working to improve these sites’ rail, water, air, and road connectivity. With a strong emphasis on security, every international tourist can safely explore their preferred destinations across Uttar Pradesh.
Highlighting the deep cultural and spiritual ties between India and Japan, Shri Jaiveer Singh stated that followers of Lord Buddha reside in both countries, strengthening their emotional and philosophical connections. Economically as well, Uttar Pradesh and Japan share strong ties. The visit of this delegation serves as a significant step in fortifying relations between the two nations and furthering the shared heritage of Lord Buddha. The Minister affirmed that all necessary conditions are in place to elevate Buddhist tourism in the state. He also acknowledged the crucial role of Mr. Nirendra Upadhyay, an advisor to Yamanashi Prefecture and a native of Uttar Pradesh, in fostering these ties.
Vice Governor of Yamanashi, Mr. Osada, expressed his admiration for Uttar Pradesh’s sacred sites and immense tourism potential. He noted that in Japan, tourism signifies “spreading the light of knowledge,” which highlights a place’s significance. He affirmed Yamanashi’s commitment to collaborating with Uttar Pradesh for tourism development. Additionally, he announced that a large delegation from Japan would visit Uttar Pradesh to explore investment opportunities. He also conveyed his gratitude to the Tourism Department for presenting various proposals.
Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram elaborated on the prospects for tourism in the state. At the same time, Special Secretary for Tourism Isha Priya delivered a presentation on the UP tourism destinations and the ongoing/planned tourism development projects. Mr. Koichi Furuya, Director of Yamanashi’s International Strategy Division, Director of Tourism Prakhar Mishra, Tourism Advisor JP Singh, and other dignitaries attended the event.
