The government is setting its sights on transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a leading hub for religious tourism, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unveiling a bold vision to harness the region’s spiritual richness as a catalyst for development.

“We want the Jammu region to evolve into a hub for tourism, especially religious tourism, which will transform the lives of local communities,” the Chief Minister said.

While inaugurating the newly built college complex at Government Degree College (GDC) Purmandal in Samba district, Chief Minister Abdullah emphasised the dual importance of education and tourism development as key enablers of regional growth. He stated that religious tourism, in particular, holds the potential to bring “unprecedented changes to the region” by uplifting local livelihoods, generating employment opportunities, and enhancing infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also underlined his commitment to educational progress in the union territory, expressing a personal ambition to attract students from other parts of India.

“I will not consider my mission fulfilled until the day students from outside J&K come here to pursue their education,” he noted. Spiritual destinations such as Vaishno Devi, Amarnath, Shiv Khori, and Purmandal attract a substantial number of pilgrims. The government’s renewed focus on religious tourism is set to boost sustainable development and further integrate Jammu and Kashmir into the national travel landscape.
