Opening its first coastal resort outside of South Asia, Otherland Galle is scheduled to debut in June 2026, marking a significant milestone in the expansion strategy of the Otherland Hotels brand.

The 66-room hotel, situated on the southern coast of Sri Lanka not far from Galle Fort, will cater to vacationers in search of lifestyle-led hospitality experiences centred around surf culture, creative communities, and destination-driven stays.

Rishi Sreedharan and Samarth Gowda established Otherland Hotels in Bengaluru in 2023 with the goal of creating the first autonomous lifestyle collective in South Asia. The company’s stated goal is to develop a network of experience-driven establishments in the area, including hotels, eateries, and beach clubs.

According to Rishi Sreedharan, Founder & CEO of Otherland Hotels, “South Asia is loud, alive, dripping with culture and taste, and deserves a hospitality brand that can speak its language without putting on a costume.” To do this, we have a vision for Otherland. For the contemporary visitor seeking more than just a place to stay, we aim to be instantly recognisable in one area, and then in another, and again, all the while establishing our place with a unique language of lifestyle. Galle is ideal for us because of its thriving creative subcultures, dynamic tourist scene, and world-class surf culture.

“The choice of Galle as our first location felt like the truest version of what Otherland could be—layered, alive, and completely its own,” elaborated Samarth Gowda, Co-Founder & COO, Otherland Hotels.

A larger development pipeline is expected to span South Asia, with Otherland Galle being the first in this pipeline.
