Deepa Chauhan, a famous home chef, culinary storyteller, and former MasterChef India Top 9 contestant, collaborated with Athiva Resort & Spa, Khandala, to organise a three-day gourmet exhibition that celebrated the rich heritage and flavours of Sindhi cuisine. Chauhan, widely regarded as the Custodian of Sindhi Cuisine, oversaw the creation of this comprehensive dining experience, which introduced patrons to traditional Sindhi cuisine, heirloom cooking methods, and obscure regional specialities.

Some of the traditional foods that were featured on the specifically planned menu were Dal Pakwan, Mirchi Chaat, Dal Tikki, Seyal Mutton, Sindhi Biryani, Macchi Maani, Kheema Bhalla, and Bheja Experience Thaali. As part of their tailored high teas, bar bite platters and extravagant dining experiences, guests also had iconic desserts like Mohan Thal, Sindhi Khoya and Mitho Lolo.

Many of the resort guests, foodies, and tourists who attended the event tried Sindhi cuisine for the first time. The exhibition celebrated more than just the food; it also paid homage to the history, customs, and anecdotes that have shaped Sindhi cuisine.

Traditional Sindhi food is rich with history, migration, perseverance, and festivity. My goal in teaming up with Athiva Resort & Spa on this project was to provide visitors an opportunity to savour the flavours of our cuisine while also learning about the history and customs that have influenced it. Deepa Chauhan expressed her delight at the growing interest in and admiration for a food that she believes should have more prominence in India’s culinary landscape.
