IndiGo, India’s preferred airline, signed an agreement with Rolls-Royce to equip its fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft with state-of-the-art Trent XWB-84 engines. IndiGo had placed an initial order of 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft in April 2024, marking its first widebody purchase, and retained purchase rights for an additional 70 Airbus A350 Family aircraft for future requirements.

Today, IndiGo signed an agreement to convert 30 of these Airbus A350 aircraft purchase rights into firm orders, doubling the widebody order to a total of 60 Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

As part of the agreement with Rolls-Royce, IndiGo will also be signing up for the TotalCare Agreement for comprehensive, round-the-clock engine health monitoring, proactive maintenance, and optimised operational performance throughout the lifecycle of the fleet.

The Trent XWB-84 engines deliver an impressive 84,000 pounds of thrust, offering industry-leading fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and outstanding reliability for long-haul operations. Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB family are the most efficient large aero-engine today, best suited for long-haul operations. This partnership will help IndiGo expand its international network and deliver reliable service to its customers.
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said, ” Building on the encouraging response we’ve received since launching our long-haul services, our Airbus A350 aircraft will further unlock unprecedented growth potential for IndiGo. The partnership with Rolls-Royce to power our widebody fleet underscores our commitment to reliable, efficient and sustainable operations as we look to expand our long-haul operations with the highest standards of performance. At IndiGo, we’re looking forward to entering into a deep and long-term relationship with Rolls-Royce.”

This strategic move will enable IndiGo to expand its international network further, connect India with more long-haul destinations across the globe, and offer its customers new international travel opportunities.
