Frankfurt is of growing interest to the Indian market. India’s outbound tourism to Frankfurt grew significantly in 2024, accounting for a sizeable share of the city’s foreign visitors. Over 200,000 Indian travellers visit Germany annually, with Frankfurt being the key entry point. We expect an additional 10 per cent increase in 2025.

Improved connectivity, developing business relations, and a greater understanding of Frankfurt’s cultural attractions are reasons for the growth rate of Indian visitors to Frankfurt. Frankfurt airport handles 70+ direct flights from India per week, with major airlines like Lufthansa and Air India. The Frankfurt-Delhi and Frankfurt-Mumbai routes have seen a 15 per cent increase in demand annually. While the city’s rich history, thriving arts scene, and scenic Main River cruises lure leisure visitors, its strong business infrastructure draws corporate travellers and MICE delegates. The city is a perfect hub for European tourists because of its central location and excellent connectivity for flights and trains.

Frankfurt’s tourism sector witnessed remarkable growth in 2024. The number of visitors grew from 32,082 in 2023 to 42,061 in 2024, with overnight stays boosted by 24 percent to 101,754. Overall development from January through August had already reached 9.5 percent. October and November welcomed a robust stream of corporate travellers, while December traditionally witnessed a boom in tourist arrivals due to the famous Christmas market.

Compared to other German cities, Frankfurt posted an 8.2 percent growth rate in overnight stays by international and domestic travellers between October and November, placing fourth behind Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg. It also took third place for overnight stays by international travellers alone.

The Frankfurt Tourism Board has launched several initiatives to increase its appeal to the Indian market. These efforts consist of focused promotional campaigns and participation at important Indian travel trade exhibitions like OTR. Frankfurt has worked closely with Indian travel agents and tour operators to create customised travel packages and promote a variety of museums, attractions, and festivals.

Frankfurt hopes to continue its progress in the future by offering Indian travellers more upscale tourism experiences, including luxury hospitality, Indian-inspired gastronomy, a Michelin Guide, bespoke travel and leisure experiences, and more.

Frankfurt expects a 25-30 percent rise in Indian luxury travellers in the next five years. The city hopes to remain a leading vacation destination in Europe.
