India, renowned since ancient times as a global leader in astronomy, is poised to witness a historic moment that links its priceless heritage to the modern space age. On August 23, 2025, the Rajasthan Tourism Department, in collaboration with Space India, will organise a grand celebration of National Space Day at Jaipur’s Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Tourism Commissioner Mrs. Rukmani Riyad stated that this event aligns with the vision expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ She emphasised that Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, Diya Kumari, is committed to positioning Rajasthan prominently on the global map of Astro-Tourism. She added that the programme will not only infuse new energy into India’s scientific heritage but also establish Rajasthan as a leading state in the field of astro-tourism. For students, researchers, and tourists, the celebration will be both enlightening and inspiring.

Dr. Sachin Bhanbha, Founder & CMD of Space India, informed that this year’s theme of National Space Day is “From Ancient Skies to the Space Age”. The day-long celebration will bring together science, culture, and space exploration in a unique blend. For the first time, Jantar Mantar’s ancient instruments will be used for live astronomical observations. The event will showcase India’s rich astronomical legacy alongside modern space achievements—from Chandrayaan to Gaganyaan—presenting India’s distinctive identity before the world. Scientists from Rajasthan serving in ISRO will also share their expertise on astronomy.

The inaugural session will feature a lamp-lighting ceremony followed by a special lecture on “From Jantar Mantar to Chandrayaan”. Under the Interactive Science Zone, activities will include safe solar viewing, a Solar System Walk Model, Space Quiz, Water Rocket Launch, and space-themed art & craft for children. The day will also host a Space Awareness Exhibition and panel discussions on “The Future of Space Exploration in India” with leading scientists and educators.

In the evening, visitors will get the rare opportunity to observe the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, galaxies, and constellations through high-powered telescopes set up at Jantar Mantar.
