Councilmember Nithya Raman and the Los Angeles City Council declared October 31, 2023 “Hollywood Sign Day” in commemoration of the Hollywood Sign’s 100th anniversary. Members of the Hollywood Sign Trust and Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board joined Councilmember Raman in Council for a cake cutting ceremony and presentation in honor of the milestone.
“The Hollywood Sign is one of the top three tourist attractions in the City of Los Angeles and it is one of the crown jewels of Council District 4,” said Councilmember Raman. “By celebrating the Hollywood Sign’s 100th anniversary, we also recommit ourselves to investing in sustainable efforts to maintain the parks, communities, and neighborhoods around it.”
“We are honored that the City of Los Angeles is commemorating October 31 as ‘Hollywood Sign Day’ in our centennial year,” said Jeff Zarrinnam, Chair of the Hollywood Sign Trust. “It’s been an incredible year for the Hollywood Sign with historic firsts, awards and wide-reaching celebrations from around the world. We all share a passion for the Hollywood Sign, which continues to be the global symbol of the entertainment industry and L.A.’s most iconic landmark.”
“As the official, non-profit tourism promotion organization for the City of Angels, we’re excited to celebrate the centennial of LA’s biggest star,” said Adam Burke, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board. “The Hollywood Sign provides a red-carpet welcome for visitors from around the globe, with tourism playing an indispensable role for all Angelenos. In 2022, visitors to LA generated $34.5 billion in total sales to local businesses and supported more than 528,000 tourism-related careers – including $1.36 billion in business sales and over 5,600 jobs in Council District 4.”
