As the global travel industry looks ahead to 2026, the focus is shifting decisively towards personalised, immersive, and responsible travel experiences, according to Alankar Chandra, Founder & CEO of Wild Voyager and Ilora Retreats.
Wild Voyager, an experiential travel company with offices in India, Kenya, and the United States, has recently expanded its presence to the UK. The company caters to over 10,000 travellers annually from key markets including India, the UK, the Middle East, and the US. Its luxury hospitality offering, Ilora Retreats, is located in the heart of the Masai Mara, Kenya.
Sharing insights on emerging travel trends for the coming year, Chandra highlights the growing influence of technology and changing traveller mindsets.
“As 2026 approaches, the trend of personalised travel aided by AI will continue to dominate. Travellers are increasingly seeking an answer to ‘What’s in it for me?’ in their journeys, while conventional travel has given way to bespoke itineraries,” says Chandra.
He notes that modern travellers are moving away from checklist-style tourism and social media-driven travel, in favour of more profound, more meaningful experiences.
“Travel today is no longer about ticking off bucket-list destinations or capturing moments for Instagram. Immersive travel — focused on understanding local culture, wildlife, and natural landscapes — has taken centre stage. It aims to inspire awareness, empathy, and a deeper connection with local ecosystems.”
Sustainability and climate consciousness are also redefining how and why people travel. According to Chandra, travellers are becoming more mindful of their impact, making deliberate choices to travel responsibly.
“The global climate change threat has reshaped the purpose of travel. Travellers are avoiding over-traversed routes, choosing locally sourced food, and contributing to wildlife conservation through volunteering and donations.”
Looking ahead, Chandra believes travel will become a powerful form of self-expression.
“In 2026, travel will go beyond being an escape from routine. It will reflect personal identity, values, and conscious choices — making a statement about who we are and what we stand for.”
