Grand Opening Showcases India’s Tourism Strength
The Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) 2026 kicked off in Jaipur at Hotel Jai Mahal Palace with remarkable enthusiasm, bringing together global buyers, travel professionals, and industry leaders under one roof. Organized to promote India as a leading tourist destination, the event witnessed participation from representatives across multiple countries, highlighting the growing international interest in India’s diverse travel offerings.
While addressing the gather during the inaugural event, Diya Kumari, Deputy Chief Minister, Rajasthan stated, “Guided by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, tourism is the key driver of growth, employment and cultural confidence. I think we are so privileged to have a Prime Minister who understands tourism. Tourism in Rajasthan supports millions of livelihoods and drives inclusive economic growth, placing the state at the forefront of this transformation. Rajasthan offers a diverse and immersive experience to visitors. As now they can stay in world-class luxury palaces, boutique heritage hotels and, increasingly, rural and tribal homestays that offer authentic engagement. Rajasthan is home to some of India’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Kumbhalgarh, Kumbhalgarh Fort and the historic pink city of Jaipur, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience living history.”
Focus on Cultural and Experiential Tourism
This year’s edition places a strong emphasis on cultural, heritage, and experiential tourism. Delegates are being introduced to curated travel experiences ranging from royal palaces and spiritual retreats to eco-tourism and adventure destinations. Rajasthan, as the host state, is playing a key role in showcasing its vibrant traditions, crafts, and hospitality, leaving a lasting impression on international buyers.
While highlighting GTB’s success story, Suchi Tyagi, Secretary-Tourism, Government of Rajasthan said, “Over the years, the Great Indian Travel Bazaar has emerged as one of India’s most important platforms for connecting the global travel market with Rajasthan’s diverse tourism strengths. It is much more than a tourist exhibition or a trade event. It is a strategic initiative that brings together policy, industry and international stakeholders on a common platform. Under the guidance of Rajasthan’s Chief Minister, Bajanlal Sharma, and the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, Diya Kumari, tourism has been accorded priority as a key growth engine sector for Rajasthan. The direction is clear that tourism development must move forward through policy support, investment facilitation and meaningful participation of local communities.”
Boost to Business and Global Partnerships
GITB 2026 serves as a crucial platform for B2B meetings, enabling Indian travel operators to connect directly with foreign tour planners. Thousands of pre-scheduled meetings are expected to translate into strategic partnerships and increased inbound tourism. Industry experts believe the event will significantly contribute to India’s tourism recovery and growth, strengthening its position in the global travel market.
Outlook for Tourism Sector
With strong participation and positive momentum, the event signals a promising year ahead for India’s tourism industry, driven by innovation, collaboration, and global outreach.
Suman Billa, Additional Secretary and Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India said,”I must congratulate Government of Rajasthan and FICCI for putting together the 15th edition of this show. Diya Kumari, Deputy CM has taken the lead in organising this so effectively as she always does. I think one way to introduce India tourism to the guests who we have here is that the Prime Minister has laid the ambition for India tourism very clearly. A few months ago, he said that the tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP must double from 5.22% that it is today to 10%. And he also fixed the timeline and said we should achieve this within the next 10 years.”
