The Government of Rajasthan is working to reshape its tourism strategy with a renewed focus on integrating the state’s rich cultural heritage. On Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari chaired a high-level review meeting at the State Secretariat to discuss various tourism-related initiatives. The committee made key decisions regarding the expansion of the Teej Festival and the redevelopment of Shilpgram to enhance the cultural tourism experience.

The committee has decided that this year’s Teej Festival will be celebrated as a two-day event with enhanced grandeur, showcasing the vibrant traditions of Rajasthan on both national and international levels. The Deputy Chief Minister also directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan for the redevelopment of Shilpgram, with local artists at the centre of this long-term vision.

Preserving Culture Alongside Promoting Tourism
Emphasizing the dual goals of tourism development and cultural preservation, Diya Kumari said that Rajasthan’s art, culture, and heritage are integral to the state’s identity. She stated that promoting tourism must go hand in hand with safeguarding cultural roots so that future generations remain connected to their legacy.

Shilpgram to Emerge as a Permanent Cultural Hub
The Deputy CM called for transforming Shilpgram, located within the Jawahar Kala Kendra complex, into a vibrant cultural space where traditional and local artists can find year-round opportunities to showcase their crafts and sell their work. The initiative aims to enhance the preservation of folk traditions and improve the livelihoods of rural artisans.

Focus on Heritage Restoration
The meeting also reviewed progress on the development of the Jamway Mata temple precinct, as well as the restoration of step-wells and other historical monuments across the state. Officials must engage expert conservationists to work on these projects. In addition, the Deputy CM emphasized the timely execution of development works approved under the Government of India’s ‘SASAKI’ scheme, including initiatives around Amer, Nahargarh, and Jal Mahal.

Senior Officials Present at the Review Meeting
Several key officials attended the review meeting, including Rajesh Sharma, who serves as the Joint Director of Tourism Development; Lalit Kumar, the Special Officer; Alka Meena, the Additional Director General of Jawahar Kala Kendra; Puneeta Singh, the Joint Director of Fairs and Festivals; and Upendra Singh Shekhawat, the Deputy Director of Tourism. Other senior officials from the department also participated in the meeting.
