Air India SATS Airport Services Pvt. Ltd. (AISATS), a 50:50 joint venture between Air India Limited (a Tata Group company) and SATS Ltd., Singapore, and India’s leading provider of integrated ground and cargo handling solutions, has commenced domestic cargo handling operations at Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, as the airport’s official Operator & Management (O&M) service provider. This development highlights AISATS’ commitment towards delivering internationally benchmarked cargo solutions to India’s supply chain and to position Raipur as a strategic hub within India’s growing air freight network.
With over fifteen years of experience in air cargo management, AISATS plans to enhance cargo operations in Raipur to meet global standards, similar to the advanced services provided at other major Indian airports. The facility will feature cutting-edge workforce planning, real-time cargo tracking, and digitised documentation processes to accelerate freight movement, reduce dwell times, and improve operational predictability. As the certified Regulated Agent (RA) at Raipur Airport, AISATS will ensure rigorous security screening, precise labelling, and secure dispatch in compliance with global safety, security, and quality benchmarks. Equipped to handle a diverse cargo portfolio, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, high-value goods, and industrial machinery, AISATS operations will enable Chhattisgarh’s industries to access national and international trade hubs more quickly and seamlessly.
The expansion will provide significant economic benefits to the region by strengthening supply chains in key industrial sectors, including steel, mining, agro-processing, and manufacturing. It will further create new skilled employment opportunities in cargo handling, security, and operations.
Mr Ramanathan Rajamani, CEO of AISATS, said, “Raipur’s central location offers immense potential to become a key cargo gateway for regional industries. In FY 2024–25, the airport handled approximately 5,079 tonnes of cargo — registering a 2.3% growth — a clear indication of rising demand and the region’s untapped potential. We aim to bring AISATS’s hallmark service excellence, operational efficiency, and sustainability practices to Raipur, ensuring faster, more reliable cargo movement. This expansion represents our commitment to advancing India’s logistics transformation, strengthening trade corridors, and creating meaningful employment opportunities in the region.”
India is expected to expand its air freight market to USD 17.22 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.65%. The addition of Raipur complements AISATS’s network and landmark infrastructure investments, including the AISATS BLR Logistics Park at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, and the Multi-Modal Cargo Hub (MMCH) currently under development at Noida International Airport.
