Effective 10 April 2026, the necessity for an airport transit visa will no longer be in place for Indian nationals travelling through France. French President Emmanuel Macron announced measures would be taken to make travel simpler for Indian citizens during his visit to India in February 2026, and this policy move follows his announcement.
A decree revising the legislation of 10 May 2010 regarding admission requirements for foreign nationals into French territory codified the decision. New legislation took immediate effect upon publication of the amended decree in the Journal Officiel (Official Gazette) on 9 April 2026.
An airport transit visa is no longer necessary for Indian nationals with regular passports to enter the international transit zones of French airports, according to the revised legislation. Only passengers continuing their journey to a third country who stay within the international zone during their layover are eligible for the exemption.
The change is anticipated to streamline administrative processes and make trip planning easier for Indian tourists using French airports as transit hubs. This does wonders for France’s allure as a connecting point for long-distance flights from India to locations in Europe, the Americas, and beyond.
