The historic and world-renowned town of Sambhar will once again host a vibrant confluence of tourism, culture, and adventure during Sambhar Mahotsav 2025. The Rajasthan Tourism Department will organise the festival from December 27 to 31, 2025. The five-day festival aims to offer domestic and international tourists an immersive experience of Rajasthan’s rich art, folk traditions and unique natural heritage.
More than just a cultural festival, Sambhar Mahotsav is envisioned as a key step towards strengthening Rajasthan’s vision for experience-based, year-round tourism, while positioning Sambhar prominently on the national and global tourism map. Notably, the Sambhar festival held in January 2024 drew enthusiastic crowds, attracting large numbers of domestic tourists from Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurugram, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Mumbai, as well as foreign visitors, which gave the event international visibility. Encouraged by this success, the Tourism Department has decided to organise the festival once again this year on a larger and more comprehensive scale.
According to Deputy Director, Tourism, Mr Upendra Singh Shekhawat, the Sambhar Mahotsav is being developed in line with the vision of Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, to showcase Rajasthan’s vibrant folk culture, artistic traditions and distinctive natural landscapes on a global platform. He added that systematic efforts are underway to elevate Sambhar Mahotsav into the league of major international tourism events in the coming years.
Mr Shekhawat further stated that Sambhar Salt Lake is no longer confined to its historical and religious significance alone, but is rapidly emerging as a preferred destination for pre-wedding shoots, photography and astro-tourism. During the festival, key activity hubs will include Jhapok, Sambhar Salt Campus, Devyani Teerth Sarovar and the main fairground.
The five-day festival will blend cultural vibrancy with adventure tourism. Art and craft stalls, local handicrafts displays and photography exhibitions will highlight Rajasthan’s distinct identity. The sight of colourful, fancy kites soaring in the sky will add a festive charm. At the same time, paramotoring, parasailing, ATV rides, and adventure bike rides will attract youth and adventure enthusiasts as major highlights.
For nature lovers, organisers have planned activities such as bird watching tours, salt lake excursions, and guided tours of the salt production process. Spiritual and culture-oriented visitors will witness Deepotsav, Maha Aarti and special illumination of religious sites, adding a serene and memorable dimension to the festival.
The festival will also feature street performances by folk artists, celebrity evenings, heritage walks, cycling tours, camel and horse rides, and a dedicated kids’ zone, making it a holistic and family-friendly event.
According to the Tourism Department, Sambhar Mahotsav 2025 will significantly boost the local economy and reinforce Rajasthan’s image as a leading experience-driven international tourism destination.
