In a significant boost to regional tourism, tour operators from Assam and Bhutan convened during the 15th Annual General Body Meeting & Convention of the Tour Operators Association of Assam (TOAA). Hosted in Samdrup Jongkhar at the invitation of the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General in Guwahati, the event welcomed around 100 representatives, including tour operators, hoteliers, and tourism officials from both regions.
A key highlight was a high-impact B2B meet aimed at framing a shared vision to promote cross-border tourism, with a special emphasis on Bhutan’s eastern circuit. The TOAA also introduced a themed Edition of its newsletter, “Tea Break”, spotlighting the untapped tourism potential between Assam and Bhutan.
The gathering drew participation from prominent dignitaries, including the Commissioner and Secretary of Assam Tourism, the Opposition Leader of Bhutan’s National Assembly, the Royal Bhutanese Consul General, and officials from the Samdrup Jongkhar district administration reflecting a strong synergy between public and private sectors.
This cross-border partnership is a strategic alignment that taps into shared natural beauty, cultural heritage, and government-backed policies under India’s Act East initiative. By fostering seamless travel routes, curated tour packages, and community engagement, both Assam and Bhutan aim to enhance regional travel and pave the way for sustainable tourism development that caters to both local and international explorers.
