At the Paris Air Show – the most important event of the aviation industry taking place in 2025 – representatives of Star Alliance member LOT Polish Airlines and Airbus, accompanied by Dariusz Klimczak, the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Poland, and Philippe Tabarot, the Minister of Transport of the Republic of France, signed an agreement under which Poland’s national carrier will acquire, between 2027 and 2031, 40 Airbus A220 aircraft offered in two different variants: -100 and -300. Under the terms of the deal, the Polish airline will have the option to purchase 44 additional planes provided by the European manufacturer.

The Airbus A220 is a modern regional jet with a capacity of 100 to 160 passengers, depending on the specific version. With a maximum range of up to 6,700 kilometres, it will be able to serve all connections within LOT Polish Airlines’ European flight network. The new generation of regional planes will also bring about significant operational and environmental benefits, including lower CO2 and noise emissions. Fuel efficiency (per passenger) will also be improved compared with previous aircraft generations. The order is the first that the national carrier has placed with this particular manufacturer.

At the Paris Air Show, LOT Polish Airlines signed a contract for the supply of engines to be installed on its regional aircraft. The Airbus A220 fleet will be powered by state-of-the-art PW1500G engines manufactured by Pratt & Whitney. The cooperation is concerned not only with the supply of technologically advanced power plants but also with joint efforts aimed at optimising regional fleet operations.

“While making the choice, we are thinking about the future. The Airbus A220 family aircraft, which will join the LOT Polish Airlines fleet in 2027, provide us with new growth and expansion opportunities that serve as the cornerstones of our development strategy. Designed with the comfort of our passengers in mind, these modern and fuel-efficient planes will allow us to compete in the European sky, strengthen our position as the preferred carrier in this part of Europe and prepare LOT Polish Airlines to play the role of the leading carrier operating from Poland’s new central airport, Centralny Port Komunikacyjny,” said Michal Fijol, President & CEO, LOT Polish Airlines.

“The order for 40 Airbus A220 aircraft is a historic breakthrough, as we can welcome LOT Polish Airlines into the Airbus family officially. The A220 will play a crucial role in the process of modernising LOT’s fleet and expanding its connection network. The A220-100 and A220-300 jets offer a perfect blend of features to satisfy those needs.

We are looking forward to the cooperation with LOT Polish Airlines and to drawing upon the global knowledge of Airbus to support the carrier’s fleet modernisation programme and to ensure smooth integration of the A220 model,” summarised Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales Commercial Aircraft, Airbus.

According to the configuration ordered by LOT Polish Airlines, the Airbus A220 will be equipped with highly comfortable Recaro seats, which are manufactured in Poland. The seats will offer several additional convenience features, such as a mobile device holder and 60W USB-C ports for all passengers, allowing them to charge mobile phones or laptops rapidly. Handy cup holders will also be available. The planes’ interiors will be aligned with the styling and colour schemes known from the airline’s business lounges and the cabins of its modernised wide-body aircraft. Large overhead bins will accommodate a higher number of carry-on bags, thereby significantly streamlining the boarding process. The higher and wider passenger cabin, combined with larger windows, will add to the feeling of spaciousness. Even the longest flights operated on the A220 will pass in no time at all, thanks to a reliable Internet connection.

The first aircraft is expected to be acquired by LOT Polish Airlines in 2027, marking the beginning of the carrier’s fleet consolidation process. Once the older generation jets have been withdrawn from service, the network will be entirely comprised of Airbus A220-100 and -300 planes, facilitating more efficient network planning and improved operational efficiency.
