In accordance with the Law of Georgia “On Tourism”, starting from January 01, 2026, all tourists entering Georgia are required to hold a valid health and accident insurance policy. Any tourist entering the territory of Georgia must present a valid health and accident insurance policy in either physical or electronic form and must be available in Georgian or English.
The insurance policy may be issued by either a Georgian or a foreign insurance company, and the insurance coverage amount must be no less than 30,000 GEL.
The insurance policy must contain the following mandatory information:
- Parties to the insurance contract;
- Covered territory;
- Subject matter of the insurance;
- Commencement and expiration dates of the insurance coverage;
- Insured risks;
- Amount of the insurance sum (limits);
- Amount of the insurance premium, place and terms of payment.
The insurance policy is required to cover the full period of a tourist’s stay in Georgia, including both arrival and departure dates.
The following persons are exempt from mandatory requirement of insurance:
- Holders of diplomatic and special visas;
- Holders of diplomatic, official, service and special passports;
- Accredited employees of diplomatic missions, consular representations, representation
offices of international organizations and equivalent representation offices, as well as their family members who hold an accreditation;
- Persons whose entering to Georgia is envisaged by International Treaties and Agreements of Georgia;
- Drivers engaged in international road freight and passenger transportation.
