IndiGo today announces that Mr Ton Dortmans will join, as of mid-August 2025, to support the technical entry into service of IndiGo’s A350 and build up IndiGo’s overall MRO (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) capabilities.
Ton’s career spans 40 years in various roles at KLM and Royal Dutch Airlines, including the last 13 years as Executive Vice President for KLM Engineering and Maintenance.
As part of IndiGo’s strategy, “Towards New Heights and Across New Frontiers,” launched in mid-2022, IndiGo has launched a broad range of initiatives. IndiGo has ordered wide-body Airbus aircraft, which are scheduled to start being delivered in 2027. The airline will gain new experience in operating and maintaining these widebody aircraft, which are powered by Rolls-Royce engines.
In addition, given the growing fleet size of IndiGo (which already exceeds 400 aircraft today) and the 900+ jets still on order, IndiGo is committed to building up more and broader capabilities in-house in India around various MRO activities. In 2023, IndiGo opened its second hangar in Bengaluru.
Ton will report to IndiGo’s Chief Operating Offer, Mr Isidro Porqueras and work closely with IndiGo’s SVP of Engineering, Mr Parichay Dutta. IndiGo has recently established an office in Amsterdam to spearhead its European expansion. In July 2025, the flights to Manchester and Amsterdam will commence operation.
Mr. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, said, “Ton has a wealth of experience in the field of MRO and widebody airline operations that IndiGo will benefit from. At IndiGo, we are delighted and grateful that, after retiring from his illustrious career at KLM, Ton will join us to support IndiGo’s team in the next phase of becoming a Global Aviation player. The opportunity to develop such MRO capabilities in-house for IndiGo in India with home-grown talent and the volumes of our operation was just not to be missed.”
