Rajasthan, long celebrated for its regal palaces and timeless heritage, is now carving a bold new identity on the global tourism map. With visionary leadership and progressive policies, the state is transforming into a hub for international events, MICE tourism, and heritage conservation.

In an exclusive conversation with Travel Heights, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari shared insights into the upcoming Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) 2025, innovative efforts to preserve the iconic Shekhawati havelis, and Rajasthan’s roadmap for becoming a multi-dimensional tourism destination.

Travel Heights: How do you see GITB 2025 contributing to Rajasthan’s tourism growth?

Diya Kumari: Rajasthan has always been a key player in India’s tourism landscape. We aim to take it to the global stage—particularly in the MICE segment. GITB 2025, scheduled to take place in Jaipur from May 4 to 6, will host over 280 international tour operators from 99 countries alongside representatives from various Indian states. It will unlock new international avenues for partnerships and growth, making Rajasthan a focal point for global tourism engagement.

Travel Heights: What makes this edition of GITB particularly significant?

Diya Kumari: Every year, GITB opens new doors—but this edition will be on a new scale. With over 11,000 B2B meetings expected, it will be a powerful catalyst for building connections between Indian tourism stakeholders and international buyers. A major highlight will be the “Meet in India Conclave”, focused on positioning India as a premier destination for MICE tourism.

Travel Heights: Following the success of IIFA 2025 in Jaipur, how are you leveraging that momentum for GITB?

Diya Kumari: Hosting IIFA 2025 gave Rajasthan a prestigious platform and enhanced our international visibility. We aim to carry that momentum into GITB 2025, maintaining the same level of excellence. We aim to make Rajasthan a sightseeing hotspot and a preferred location for global corporate events and large-scale exhibitions.

Travel Heights: Rajasthan is rich in heritage. What are your plans for preserving the Shekhawati havelis?

Diya Kumari: The havelis of Shekhawati are an irreplaceable part of Rajasthan’s cultural legacy. Recently, I chaired a dedicated meeting with district collectors from Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu, along with senior officials from the tourism department, to address their conservation. We plan to conduct a digital survey of all havelis and create policies to protect and restore them. Ramgarh in Sikar will serve as a model project for this initiative.

Travel Heights: How do you plan to integrate these heritage sites into tourism circuits?

Diya Kumari: We intend to formally incorporate the Shekhawati havelis into the state’s heritage tourism circuit. We will revise heritage bylaws, appoint expert teams for architectural restoration, and involve local communities. Our vision is transforming Shekhawati into an open-air museum, ensuring cultural preservation and rural economic development.

Travel Heights: What is your broader vision for the future of Rajasthan tourism?

Diya Kumari: Our long-term strategy is to make Rajasthan a multi-faceted tourism destination. This includes:

  • Strengthening MICE tourism, positioning Rajasthan as a top venue for corporate events and international conferences
  • Enhancing traditional tourism with experiential elements like heritage walks, local artisan engagement, and culinary trails
  • Promoting sustainable tourism that supports environmental preservation while driving inclusive growth and livelihood opportunities

Travel Heights: What message would you like to share with the people of Rajasthan and the tourism industry?

Diya Kumari: Rajasthan’s culture, heritage, and legendary hospitality are its most significant assets. We must protect these and showcase them to the world with pride. I encourage tourism entrepreneurs, stakeholders, and local communities to embrace innovation, explore emerging opportunities, and contribute to making Rajasthan a global tourism hub that blends tradition with modern aspirations.

As Rajasthan turns a new page in its tourism journey, the state’s commitment to preserving its roots while reaching new heights globally is an inspiring model for the nation.
