The Ministry of Tourism has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the North Eastern Region (NER) as a key tourism hub through a series of integrated initiatives, capacity-building efforts, and sustained infrastructure development.

As part of its ongoing endeavours, the Ministry continues to highlight destinations across the eight North Eastern states through domestic and international campaigns, digital outreach, fairs and festivals, and participation in global tourism events.

International Tourism Mart (ITM) 2025 Held in Gangtok
Since 2013, the International Tourism Mart has served as a flagship platform showcasing the tourism potential of the Northeast. This year’s Edition, held in Gangtok, Sikkim, from 13–16 November 2025, brought together stakeholders including buyers, sellers, entrepreneurs, government representatives, and media from across India and abroad. The event facilitated business interactions and strengthened collaboration among NER states—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.

Digital Promotion Through Incredible India
The revamped Incredible India Digital Platform (IIDP), launched in September 2024, now features multilingual content in Hindi, English, and UN languages. The platform provides enriched coverage of Northeast destinations, supported by social media campaigns, creative content, live sessions, and regular updates to boost visibility in global and domestic markets.

Support for Fairs & Festivals
Under the Domestic Promotion and Publicity including Hospitality (DPPH) scheme, the Ministry continues to extend financial assistance to NER states for organising fairs, festivals, and cultural tourism events (Annexure-I).

Infrastructure Development Under Central Schemes
Multiple flagship schemes—including Swadesh Darshan, PRASHAD, Assistance to Central Agencies, SASCI, and Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD)—are supporting infrastructure upgrades for tourism across the region.

The revised Swadesh Darshan 2.0 framework emphasises sustainable and responsible tourism with a destination-focused approach. You can find details about ongoing and approved projects in Annexure II.

Swachhta Action Plan Activities
As part of the Swachhta Action Plan, the Ministry organised 173 awareness activities in 2024–25 across institutions such as IITTM, Central IHMs, State IHMs, and FCIs. Additionally, 277 programmes under Swachhta Pakhwada and 244 initiatives under Swachhta Hi Sewa were conducted nationwide, including several in the Northeast.

Improved Air Connectivity Through RCS–UDAN
To enhance regional connectivity, the Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with the Ministry of Civil Aviation through viability gap funding support under the Champion Service Sector Scheme.
The authorities have designated several air routes in the North East as Tourism RCS routes, including:
Dibrugarh–Dimapur, Dimapur–Imphal, Agartala–Aizawl, Dibrugarh–Imphal, and Hollongi–Guwahati, among others. The new routes will significantly enhance access to key tourism destinations throughout the region.
