The Prime Ministers Museum and Library (PMML), Nehru Planetarium, New
Delhi, will host a special public lecture on 10th February 2026 to be delivered by Prof.
Duncan Lorimer, world-renowned astrophysicist, Fellow of the Royal Society, and Professor
of Physics and Astronomy at West Virginia University, USA, who led the discovery of the
first Fast Radio Burst (FRB), among the brightest and most mysterious radio pulses in the
universe.

The lecture titled “The Brightest Pulses in the Universe,” will take the audience into one of
the most exciting frontiers of contemporary astronomy. The highlight of the lecture will be
Fast Radio Bursts, which are ultra-powerful flashes of radio waves originating from distant
galaxies and releasing immense energy within milliseconds.

Highlighting the significance of the event, Shri Ashwani Lohani, Director, Prime Ministers
Museum and Library, said: “It is a great privilege for PMML and Nehru Planetarium to host
Prof. Duncan Lorimer. This interaction is a wonderful opportunity for students, young
researchers, and the wider public to engage directly with a scientist whose work has
transformed our understanding of the universe. Such events inspire curiosity, scientific
temper and a deeper appreciation of India’s growing engagement with global science.”

The lecture will take place on 10 February 2026 at 3:00 PM at the PMML Auditorium,
Administrative Block, New Delhi, and is open to the public.
