Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by the Government are shaping India’s aviation ecosystem through visible capability creation and sustained industrial growth. India is now the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market, with annual passenger traffic reaching 161 million in 2024. (2025 data not out as of now). Demand is expected to rise steadily over the next decade, creating a strong case for deeper localisation across aircraft structures, avionics, interiors, engineering services, and lifecycle support.

Indian aviation enterprises are increasingly investing in certified manufacturing, design led engineering, and globally aligned maintenance capabilities. This shift is strengthening quality standards while retaining greater value within the domestic ecosystem. With India’s MRO market projected to approach USD 4 billion by the early 2030s, local maintenance and support are becoming central to airline efficiency and passenger reliability.

Indigenous aircraft programmes and localisation initiatives are translating self-reliance into execution. Policy support and industry investment are reinforcing each other. As these capabilities scale, India is emerging as a self-sustaining aviation hub. This progress supports everyday air travel, strengthens supply chain resilience, and positions India as a credible contributor to the global aviation ecosystem.
