Dr Vedpati Mishra has been nominated by the Uttar Pradesh government as the next Director General of Tourism, succeeding the departing incumbent, in a major step strengthening the state’s tourism leadership. A seasoned IAS officer from the 2008 batch, Dr Mishra formally took over as head of the Directorate General of Tourism, where he would oversee strategy, promotion, and development initiatives meant to raise Uttar Pradesh’s status as a top vacation destination.

Prior to this appointment, Dr Vedpati Mishra held the position of Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission. He brought with him a wealth of experience in public policy and governance as well as a solid administrative background. He is leading important tourism projects in his new position, such as the growth of rural tourism, the extension of the heritage circuit, and global marketing campaigns aimed at drawing more tourists from both domestic and foreign countries to the state.

In order to diversify and enhance visitor experiences, Uttar Pradesh has been aggressively carrying out ambitious tourism projects, such as plans to turn rural villages into tourist destinations and encourage agritourism and farm stays. These programmes are a part of a larger plan to showcase the state’s rich cultural legacy, increase tourism, and create jobs.

The nomination of Dr. Mishra, according to officials, demonstrates the government’s resolve to maintain the momentum in tourism innovation and growth. It is anticipated that under his direction, current initiatives—like the creation of wellness tourism hubs and ecotourism collaborations—will be complemented with fresh approaches that make the most of Uttar Pradesh’s historical and religious landmarks.

Stakeholders in the travel and hotel industry have applauded the initiative, believing that a greater administrative focus will assist Uttar Pradesh attract more tourists and maintain its position as one of India’s most popular and varied tourism destinations.
