The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) is organizing a seminar titled ‘Indian Adventure Tourism: Risk Management’ at The Park Hotel, New Delhi, on May 18, 2026.

Adventure tourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of the global travel industry, valued at approximately USD 683 billion in 2024. India is uniquely positioned to harness this momentum and establish itself as a leading global destination for adventure tourism.

Safety in adventure tourism remains the cornerstone of credibility, investor confidence and India’s positioning on the global adventure tourism map. ATOAI’s collective vision is to position India among the top ten global adventure tourism destinations by 2034. Realising this ambition will require coordinated and strategic efforts, robust risk mitigation and the highest standards of safety.

While several adventure tourism standards have already been developed and others are in progress, there is a larger need for industry-wide standardization through effective adoption and implementation. This must be supported by a more uniform regulatory and monitoring framework across states, along with a robust risk management structure.

Ajeet Bajaj, President, ATOAI said, “India’s immense adventure tourism potential must be anchored in robust risk management and uncompromising safety standards. This seminar is a significant step towards building a unified, future-ready framework that inspires confidence among all stakeholders.”

The seminar will convene key policymakers, state representatives, industry leaders and international experts to deliberate on actionable outcomes through focused discussions on:

  • Global and Indian best practices in risk management
  • Comprehensive safety frameworks across land-, water- and air-based activities
  • Insurance, legal liability and compliance mechanisms
  • Strengthening regulatory frameworks
  • The role of media in shaping perception, enhancing consumer awareness, and ensuring accountability

The seminar will culminate in the formulation of a National Roadmap for Adventure Tourism Risk Management, aligned with global benchmarks and tailored to India’s diverse geographical landscape.

The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) is the national body representing adventure tourism stakeholders and is committed to promoting safe, sustainable, and responsible adventure tourism across India.
