Travel and tourism have played an Important role in making India a major player on the global plat form. However, the pandemic wreaked havoc on the travel industry, with borders closing across the globe and stakeholders losing out on major oppor tunities. Ankush Nijhawan, CEO Travel Boutique Online, speaking exclusively to Varsha Thomas Thylammanal of Travel Heights, says the period of doom and despair is at its fag end. According to him, they are back in business. Excerpts:
As an Industry expert, what are your major predictions for the Indian and global tourism sector, for the next five years?
For the next five years, I don’t see any dearth of demand, especially in the years 2023 and 2024. 2023-24 will be the best year that the industry has experienced, because there is so much pent up demand. We have witnessed this aspect in this year itself as the market bounced back at an unexpected rate. Currently, there are challenges in terms of the capacity crunch, with visas being delayed. This happened because no consulate or airline expected the Indian market to recover at this rate. Starting April onwards, airlines will be back with more capacity aimed at the Indian market, and visa issuances will be under control, ensuring that 2023.
