A month-long expert series has been conducted by NIPS Institute of Hotel Management, Kolkata, to help hospitality students have more exposure to the business and be more prepared for their careers. Senior executives from top hospitality organisations visited the university as part of the program to provide students a better understanding of the operational and professional demands of the field. The topics covered in the sessions included being prepared for interviews, opportunities for management trainees, group work, personal presentation, communication, cooking basics, leadership training, and internship preparation.

Hosts from various hotels and resorts, such as ITC Hotels, Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata, Pride Plaza Hotel, The LaLiT Great Eastern Kolkata, and Taj SATS Kolkata, were included in the series.

Career development was at the heart of the curriculum. Management trainee programs, interview techniques, and group discussions were led by Devabrata Bhattacharya, Cluster Head of Human Resources at ITC Hotels Kolkata; Rameez Ahmed, Human Resources Manager at ITC Hotels Kolkata; and Manav Mirchandani, Deputy Human Resources Manager at ITC Hotels Kolkata. In order to get students used to the way the business recruits, they also did practical exercises and practiced mock interviews.

Aside from Sowmya Sengupta, additional sessions were led by Sudipta Halder, Learning & Development Manager at Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata, Rishu Ranjan, and Area Director of Learning & Development for East & North East at IHCL/Taj Hotels, Sowmya Sengupta. Internships, effective communication, professional appearance, and workplace expectations were the main topics of discussion.

“We at NIPS Institute believe that hospitality education does not just end in the classroom, the textbook, and the exams,” said Vivek Pathak, Founder and Director of the NIPS Institute of Hotel Management, commenting on the program. Pros that are both knowledgeable and confident in their abilities to adjust to new circumstances are in high demand in the industry right now. Students learn about the working conditions and the skills needed for them through these events, where we interact with experts in the field on a regular basis. By doing so, they are better able to cultivate the kind of professional demeanour that is essential for thriving in the global hospitality sector.

During his time with the students, Shekhar Mukherjee—former general manager of Taj SATS Kolkata—emphasized the significance of perseverance, professionalism, and lifelong learning in establishing successful careers in the hospitality industry.
