In line with the growing national focus on sustainable tourism and responsible travel, Polo Hotels Group,
through its two group companies, Hotel Polo Towers Limited, Shillong and Manor Floatel Limited,
Kolkata, has launched the ‘Clean Sohra, Green Sohra’ campaign—an on-ground Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at strengthening waste management and civic infrastructure in
Sohra (Cherrapunji), one of Meghalaya’s most visited destinations. The initiative, channelled through
Rotary Guwahati, Luit Trust and implemented in partnership with the traditional governing body Hima
Sohra, was inaugurated at Polo Resort, Cherrapunjee, on Tuesday, 31 March 2025, at 10:30 AM, with
strong participation from the local community.

Assets Donated to Hima Sohra
As part of the campaign, the following assets have been contributed for operational use by Hima Sohra:
● 1 Tata 612 Tipper Truck – for waste collection and transport
● 4 Bajaj Pulsar Motorcycles – for patrolling and monitoring
● Keep Sohra Clean Sign Boards – for public awareness across key locations

Speaking on the initiative, Kishan Tibrewalla, Chairman and Whole-time Director of Polo Hotels Group,
said: “Sohra is not simply a destination on our map. It is the very heartbeat of what Polo Hotels Group
stands for. For years, we have learnt that the most enduring businesses are those that leave the land better than they found it. This initiative is our pledge to Sohra and to every community that has trusted us to be a worthy neighbour. Clean Sohra, Green Sohra”

Community Participation
The inauguration ceremony at Polo Resort, Cherrapunjee, witnessed meaningful participation from local
community members, workers, Hima Sohra representatives, Rotary Club office-bearers, and senior
leaders from Polo Hotels Group. The event highlighted the importance of collaborative partnerships
between businesses, civil society organisations, and traditional governing bodies in addressing
environmental and civic challenges in ecologically sensitive destinations.
As sustainability becomes central to India’s tourism narrative, initiatives such as ‘Clean Sohra, Green
Sohra’ reflect a shift towards destination stewardship, where hospitality players actively contribute to
preserving the environments they operate within.
