In order to improve consumer engagement via conversational commerce and further its AI-first approach to trip discovery, MakeMyTrip has declared a strategic partnership with OpenAI.

A generative AI assistant that offers real-time conversations, tailored suggestions, and end-to-end booking journeys, MakeMyTrip has integrated OpenAI’s APIs into its app as part of the cooperation. This allows travellers to plan and book trips using the company’s Myra interface. Through the integration, MakeMyTrip is now able to unite discovery, decision-making, and transactions within a single digital ecosystem, putting it at the front of AI-driven vacation planning.

The partnership improves MakeMyTrip’s responsiveness to changing travel purpose by translating spoken instructions into organised, bookable results for transportation, lodging, and extras. It heralds a change from routine search habits to discovery driven by artificial intelligence, where contextual intelligence transforms user interest into practical routes.

“Our partnership with OpenAI guarantees that when passengers begin their journey through conversation, MakeMyTrip becomes an effortless extension of that discovery process,” stated Rajesh Magow, co-founder and group chief executive officer of MakeMyTrip. Deep integration of AI into the marketplace, supported by MakeMyTrip’s unique travel data, allows it to go beyond inspiration and provide scalable, tailored, bookable results. Here, the focus is on turning inquisitiveness into self-assured choices.

The use of OpenAI’s application programming interfaces (APIs) by MakeMyTrip makes vacation planning feel less like filtering and more like a conversation, according to Oliver Jay, Managing Director – International of OpenAI. This is achieved through providing suggestions and itineraries that mirror visitors’ true desires. When we talk about advanced AI, we’re not only talking about how businesses utilise it internally; we’re also talking about how they can change the way their customers interact with the platform.

For a number of years, MakeMyTrip has been pouring resources into AI and ML, integrating intelligence into every step of the travel process (from initial ideation and discovery to final payment and beyond). Myra, built on its patented large-language models, helps over 50,000 people every day with discussions in eight languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Bengali. Tier-2 and smaller cities now account for over 45% of Myra’s engagement, which is a reflection of the increasing role of AI in expanding digital travel access across India.
