In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle within India’s Ministry of Tourism, Suman Billa has been appointed Director General (DG) of Tourism, in addition to his current role as Additional Secretary. Billa, a 1996-batch IAS officer from the Kerala cadre, previously served as Secretary of Kerala Tourism, where he championed initiatives like responsible tourism and monsoon campaigns. He was Director of Technical Cooperation and Silk Road Development at the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) from 2019 to 2021. Industry leaders have welcomed his appointment, citing his extensive experience and visionary approach to sustainable tourism development.

Concurrently, Mugdha Sinha, who previously held the Director General of Tourism position, has been appointed as the Managing Director of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Tourism.

These appointments are part of a broader bureaucratic reshuffle approved by the Cabinet Committee of Appointments, which aims to strengthen leadership within the tourism sector.
